It is not quite at Nomi’s level on the exact date, but for an app you can use free it recalls more than most paid ones here, and it stays in character while it does it, so the memory reads as the same person continuing rather than a fact lookup. That combination puts it second on this list.

Verdict: the best recall you can get without paying, and it stays in character while doing it.

3. Kindroid, close behind with voice attached

Kindroid held two of my three planted details after two weeks, missing only the specific date. What sets it apart is that the memory is tunable, you can nudge what it treats as important, which most apps do not expose at all. Voice is genuinely good too. Pricing climbs once you use voice and selfies regularly, so budget for that rather than the entry number.

Verdict: strong second, worth it if you also want voice.

4. EVA AI, decent recall buried under upsells

EVA remembered the pet name and the work problem but missed the date entirely, and even the two it kept came back generic rather than specific. The bigger issue is the monetization. Photo and video generation sit on a separate token balance stacked on top of the subscription, which makes the app feel more expensive than the headline price once you actually use it.

Verdict: the memory works, the wallet takes the hit.

• CrushOn AI keeps a scene consistent while you are in it but does not carry specific facts forward well across sessions days apart.
• Dream Companion holds the character you built, its traits and backstory, but does not layer new long-term memory on top of that foundation.
• JOI AI treats memory as an afterthought to the voice feature, which is fine if voice is why you are there in the first place.

A quick note on how memory actually gets built
