Who I am
I am Mike Snow, the editor here. I have spent the last two years signing up for, paying for, and actually using AI companion apps so you can skip the bad ones. No hype, no press releases, just notes from real testing. I started this site because every "best AI companion" list I found read like it was written from the marketing pages, not from actually using the products. I wanted a place that told the truth, including when an app I wanted to like turned out to be mediocre.
How I test
Every review on this site comes from a real account and, where it matters, a paid subscription I bought myself. I do not accept free premium access in exchange for coverage, because that quietly bends what you are willing to say. For each app I run the same checklist:
- Conversation quality. Does it feel like talking to someone, or like reading a script? I test casual chat, longer emotional threads, and creative back-and-forth.
- Memory. I mention specific details early on and check days later whether they come back naturally.
- Real pricing. Not the sticker price, the price once you actually use the features. Coin and token systems get drained on purpose to see how fast.
- Privacy and safety. What the app stores, how long, whether billing is discreet, and what the policy says about sharing data.
Scores are out of 10 and reflect the whole experience, not one feature. When an app updates in a way that changes my view, I revisit the piece and stamp it with a new "updated" date.
How the site makes money
Some outbound links to apps are affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you sign up. That never changes a score or a ranking. I have recommended free apps over paying ones plenty of times, and I have given low scores to apps whose affiliate programs I am part of. If that ever stops being true, this site has failed at its one job.
Corrections
If something here is out of date or wrong, tell me at mikesnow740@gmail.com and I will fix it. Accuracy matters more than being first.
Some apps covered here allow adult (18+) content. Where that is relevant I say so plainly, but this site is not itself adult content. Reviews focus on quality, safety, and value, and are written for adults deciding whether a paid subscription is worth it.
